The Minnesota Timberwolves stayed hot on the road Wednesday night, taking down the Phoenix Suns 121-113. However, the game wasn’t without fireworks.
Head coach Chris Finch was ejected in the third quarter after picking up his second technical foul, forcing Anthony Edwards to step in and hold back his furious coach before things escalated further.
The dramatic moment added to an already intense Western Conference battle, with Minnesota showcasing resilience despite losing its leader on the sidelines.
The technical foul seemed unexpected. Finch was engaged in what looked like a calm discussion with official CJ Washington when Washington suddenly turned and issued the technical.
As Finch angrily stormed onto the court, Edwards, the Timberwolves’ All-Star guard, rushed to his side, pulling his coach away, as shown in a post on X by The Hoop Central.

Despite the heated moment, Minnesota remained locked in, with Edwards leading the charge to ensure the Timberwolves didn’t lose focus.
Edwards finished the night with 33 points, seven rebounds, five assists, two steals and four blocks. He continued his stellar play as the Timberwolves solidified their standing among the West’s elite. Nickeil Alexander-Walker added 23 points off the bench for Minnesota, while Julius Randle had 28 points.
The Suns, despite a strong effort from Devin Booker and Kevin Durant, struggled to match Minnesota’s intensity down the stretch.
While Finch’s ejection could have derailed the Timberwolves, it instead fueled their fire. With Edwards stepping up both as a leader and playmaker, Minnesota closed out the game with poise, proving they can handle adversity.
If this performance was any indication, the Timberwolves aren’t just contenders—they’re a team with an edge, ready for any challenge.
