Anthony Edwards is one of the NBA’s young rising superstars.

At just 24-years-old, Edwards has already carried the Minnesota Timberwolves to back-to-back Western Conference Finals appearances, while knocking out legends of the game like Kevin Durant, Nikola Jokic and LeBron James.

What makes Edwards so special is his explosiveness, athleticism and scoring ability. He’s got a confident mindset and a killer instinct.

When Edwards is locked in and takes over a game he resembles some of the greatest players who have ever played in the league.

Shams Charania says Anthony Edwards has been ‘establishing a mid-range game and the fadeaway shot from the post, a la Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant’

Edwards is always finding ways to improve and fine-tune his game.

Last offseason Edwards’ big focus was improving the three-point shot, so he spent a lot of time working on that and as a result he led the league in three-pointers made last season.

This offseason, Edwards has been focusing on developing his post-up game. This was revealed by ESPN’s Shams Charania.

“So I’ve been told this offseason, Anthony Edwards’ number one focus, a new area of development, and that’s the post-up game.

“The mid-post, the high-post, low-post. Establishing a mid-range game and the fadeaway shot from the post, a la Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant.

“I’m told he’s been watching a lot of tape of Kobe and MJ, studying their game and how they were able to get the shot off from the post-up game,” Charania added.

“And my understanding is that Minnesota believes this part of his game potentially will become a go-to element, especially as games stagnate down the stretch, get slower, particularly come playoff time.

“So Anthony Edwards has understood he needs to take the next step in his game if this team is gonna take the next step and that’s why he’s been in that Minnesota Timberwolves facility since June.

“But that mid-range shot, that post-up game, that fadeaway from the post like MJ and Kobe, that could very well be a big part of his repertoire this season.”

Jay Williams said Anthony Edwards needed to develop his post game to take the next step

Edwards must have been listening to the media because this past summer, Jay Williams spoke on ESPN about Edwards needing to develop a post-up game which would take his game to the next level.

“If you keep putting those highlights in a side-by-side box, we’re gonna see something that talks about the next iteration of Ant, Williams said on First Take.

“In every play that you see, it’s him at the top of the key, him trying to dance off the dribble, him trying to take long threes. His game needs to go to the Kobe Bryant stage, the Michael Jordan stage.

“If Anthony Edwards learns how to play with his back to the basket, the game will be over for the rest of the league”

Edwards is already a prolific scorer when it comes to getting to the rack or taking threes. But, if he can also add the ability to dominate in the post-up game, it will unlock his offense even more, making him an unstoppable force in the NBA this season.
