After two seasons of making it to the Western Conference Finals, the Minnesota Timberwolves have a spotlight shining on them. As the team’s star player, Anthony Edwards is putting pressure on the organization.
The Minnesota Timberwolves have started the season with one win and one loss in the first two games. Both were tough games, but they show that the team is ready to continue competing in gritty matchups.
As the Timberwolves’ star player, Anthony Edwards wants to be the player who can take charge of the team and become an MVP candidate. The Timberwolves have been successful in recent years, making it to the Western Conference Finals twice in two years. Of course, they lost, but they could still surpass this achievement in future postseason runs.
Edwards wants the Timberwolves to compete for a championship, and he is making it the team’s biggest goal moving forward. This has been evident in his performances in the 2025-26 season, especially in the opener against the Portland Trail Blazers.
The Timberwolves have been an impressive team because of how they continue to prove the doubters wrong. Many people thought that losing Karl-Anthony Towns was the nail in the coffin for the team in the 2024-25 season.
They might have started badly in 2024-25, but that changed in the second half of the campaign. Julius Randle finally gained momentum and became the Timberwolves’ second-best player behind Edwards after their initial struggle.
From the halfway point of the previous season, the Timberwolves were one of the most dangerous teams in the league. They rode that momentum until the Western Conference Finals, when they lost to the eventual champions, the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Now in the 2025-26 season, the Timberwolves still have a strong and cohesive roster. If they can continue to play well, the NBA Finals are a possibility despite the dominant Thunder and the Nikola Jokic-led Denver Nuggets competing for the top spot.
“Everything is great. Man, listen. At this point, it’s championship or bust. We’ve already been there two times,” Edwards said to the referee before the Timberwolves’ game against the Lakers.

Most people’s eyes are on the Thunder, Nuggets, and even the Houston Rockets. It is fair for some people to see them as contenders because of their star power. They have earned that branding, but the Timberwolves should also be among them.
They have been the second-best team in the West, as evidenced by their two Western Conference Finals appearances for the past two seasons. Edwards has become a superstar, and he is hungry for success.

As the star player, Edwards has become one of the most impressive players on the roster. He has worked hard to become a star, possibly even exceeding the expectations set for a number-one overall pick.
Moving forward, the Timberwolves will have high expectations. Edwards and the team welcome them because they want to live up to and possibly shatter those expectations. They want to succeed, and there is no harm in setting lofty goals for themselves.
