The Anthony Edwards-Michael Jordan connection is no longer just a social media theory.

The Minnesota Timberwolves star Edwards spoke with reporters during team media day on Monday. During the session, Edwards revealed the advice that he got this offseason from the retired NBA icon Jordan.

Edwards said that Jordan gave him tips on how to score in the post and specifically offered him pointers on the proper way of leaning on defenders while facing away from the basket.

“[He told me about] getting to my spots, pulling up, shooting over defenders,” said Edwards of Jordan. “I think the best tip that he gave me is [that] most people lean on people in the post with their a–, and he do it with the top part of his back. So I think I learned that from him.”

The three-time All-Star Edwards, 24, has reportedly been watching tape of Jordan throughout the offseason in the hopes of significantly developing his post-up repertoire. Edwards averaged a career-high 27.6 points per game for the Timberwolves last season but is looking to take the next step to elevate his all-around offensive game.

On top of that, Edwards has a decently friendly relationship with His Airness. He reached out to Jordan last season for advice in a notable area and even got tips from Jordan when he first entered the NBA back in 2020.

Edwards’ style of play, particularly his athleticism attacking the basket, has drawn plenty of the comparisons to the legendary six-time champion Jordan. While not everybody agrees with those comparisons, it definitely sounds like Edwards is doing his best to be like Mike.
