Anthony Edwards says playing with Curry has influenced his three-point shooting uptick: 'I think that plays a big role in it '

Before the Paris Olympics, Minnesota Timberwolves superstar guard Anthony Edwards boasted that he would be the No.1 scoring option on Team USA. But when the actual Olympics came, Ant was happy to play whatever role head coach Steve Kerr gave him, even if that meant taking a backseat to old heads like LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Stephen Curry.

In the end, Edwards became an Olympic gold medalist, but perhaps more than the gold, he learned valuable basketball lessons while being around this generation's greatest basketball stars. Rachel Nichols recently caught up with Ant and asked him which Paris teammate he learned the most from, and surprisingly, Anthony said it was Steph.

"Just playing without the ball, running around, cutting, setting screens, getting guys open. Just being happy for my teammates. I think Steph did that in the whole Olympics. I definitely try to mimic that a lil' bit," he explained.

Ant is playing differently this year

Curry thrilled basketball fans with his scintillating performance in the semifinals and gold medal game in Paris. But even when Steph struggled in the contests before the knockout round, he was doing the little things Anthony talked about.

That explains why the Wolves star is playing differently this season. Most noticeably, Edwards' usage of 30.6 is much lower than last season's 32.3. Then there is the uptick in his three-point shooting. Ant is making 4.5 threes on 10.6 attempts per game this season, as compared to his 2.7 makes on 7.6 shots per contest career average. When Nichols asked him if that's Steph's influence, too, he said yes.

"I think that plays a big role in it too. Just watching him, and tryna figure out my mechanics. Yeah, for sure," added Anthony.

Ant showed Steph what he's learned

On Friday night, the Gonzaga product faced Curry for the first time since the Paris Olympics. Edwards did not waste any time showing the Golden State Warriors superstar what he learned from him during their time together. The No.1 overall pick of the 2020 NBA Draft dropped 30 points on 11-18 shooting, including 4-10 from deep with four rebounds, nine assists, one steal, and two blocks.

"He knows; I tell him every time I see him," Edwards replied when asked after the game if he's told Curry about the things he learned from him. "We were talking a little trash tonight, and after the game, I was like, 'Yeah,' and he was 'Right back' cuz we play him again in a day-and-a-half, so I know it's going to be tough. But I'll be ready."

The Wolves meet the Dubs again in Golden State on Sunday, and that's what Ant was talking about. He's expecting his sensei to get back at him in that game after Friday night's blowout win. But as we know, Edwards is born-ready, so that's a must-watch game.
