Anthony Edwards Sets A Brand New Timberwolves Record

The Minnesota Timberwolves have only been around since 1989, and they are one of the youngest organizations in the league. They already have their fair share of legendary players, but Anthony Edwards continues to prove he has the best shot at being the greatest player in franchise history.

Despite players like Kevin Garnett, Kevin Love, and Karl-Anthony Towns playing for the Timberwolves, Ant has set a new record for the organization, being the only player to have multiple seasons with over 2,000 points.

It is becoming undeniable that Ant is one of the best players in the league. He has always been a natural scorer, but his continued development has been impressive, to say the least. Once known as a slasher, Edwards is a three-level scorer now with a deep arsenal of skills.

Ant is on the fast track to becoming the most prolific offensive player in Timberwolves history. That is a massive achievement, given the quality of players who have performed for Minnesota.

The Game Has Changed Over The Years

Fans might be surprised when they learn Ant is the only Timberwolves player to do this. They must know that Garnett played in an era when the pace was slower, so scoring opportunities did not come as often.

During his 14-season Timberwolves career, he averaged 19.8 points per game. His peak was during his MVP year in the 2003-04 season when he averaged 24.2 points a night. If Garnett played in the modern era, he would have earned the same accolade as Ant, but he was a bit too early.

Towns would have also been a good candidate for this achievement, but he only did it once in the 2016-17 season. That was the year when he played all 82 games, which he only did during his first three seasons in the league.

KAT faced plenty of injuries and struggles, which led to him missing games across his Timberwolves career and prevented him from eclipsing the 2,000-point mark again.

Edwards Will Keep Doing This For The Timberwolves

Now that Edwards is the top dog and has embraced his role as the undisputed #1 scorer, he is a shoo-in choice for getting this accolade multiple times in the coming years.

His career averages are 23.8 points per game, but the 24-25 season is an indication of what is to come with his 27.3 points a night. As long as Ant stays healthy, he will extend his franchise record of scoring over 2,000 points a season.
