Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards is one of the NBA's best offensive talents. He commands extra attention from defenses, drawing double teams when he has the ball. In the past, Edwards expressed how he wasn't a big fan of the defensive approach opposing teams use to slow him down. But after the Wolves' 108-105 loss against the Phoenix Suns on Monday, he had a different take.
Edwards had a huge offensive night against the Suns. He had 40 points and nine rebounds on 71.4% shooting. With his huge scoring night, he attracted defenders and directed double teams. Even with the defensive effort, Phoenix couldn't slow him down.
Following the contest, the three-time All-Star was asked about his thoughts on the double teams he gets. Surprisingly, Edwards took a more mature take on it.
“It's fun, though. Last year it was frustrating, but now I done seen everything breaking the film down, still finding ways to be aggressive. So it's fun,” Edwards said.
At this time last year, Anthony Edwards was very frustrated with how often he was getting doubled and taken out of offensive possessions.

On January 2nd, 2025 he said: "It's not how I want to play, of course. I'm only 23, I don't wanna just be passing the ball all night... It's… https://t.co/lF58jWQJQd pic.twitter.com/2j3GdYrVyO
“If y’all gon’ guard me like this, I know exactly where I want to pass the ball. Tonight, we got a bunch of open looks, just didn’t make it.”
Edwards explained that the key to his growth, which led to that mentality, has been communicating with his teammates. He added that giving up the ball to his teammates when getting doubled by the defense allows him to move freely without it. The Wolves star says that it generates more options for the team. The former Georgia star said that reading the defenses early in the game helps him analyze and prepare his approach.
The team has improved in moving the ball around this season. The Wolves are eighth in made passes, an improvement from their 11th-place finish last season
