Renowned NBA analyst Zach Lowe strongly believes that the Atlanta Hawks should keep Trae Young despite the team’s underwhelming past few seasons.
Lowe argues that while the Atlanta Hawks could benefit from shopping Young, the team is better off keeping him in the long run because of what he brings to the table and the underwhelming trade market for the four-time NBA All-Star.
“I kind of want the Hawks to keep Trae Young long term. I don’t think there’s a great market for him. So I don’t think there’s a trade out there that completely just reorients the franchise in a positive way,” Lowe said on The Ringer.
“If I can extend him at a decent number, I just kind of like their team, and I do think he’ll change his style of play a little bit. I think there’s hope for like a Trae Young mid-career, metamorphosis is too strong of a word, but I could see, like, in a year, it’s like, ‘oh my god, the Hawks are like, up 2-1 in the second round, and Trae Young is moving off the ball a little bit’…like I could see it,” he added.
Grant Afseth of RG Media recently listed the Atlanta Hawks as one of the potential free agent destinations for Myles Turner if the veteran center doesn’t sign an extension with the Indiana Pacers this offseason.
“The Detroit Pistons and Atlanta Hawks are among the teams interested in Turner ahead of free agency, sources tell RG, as both teams look to bolster their frontcourts,” Afseth reported.
Adding someone like Turner will give Atlanta a frontcourt boost with his ability to protect the rim and stretch the floor. As of this writing, the Atlanta Hawks have Onyeka Okongwu, Mouhamed Gueye, Clint Capela, and Larry Nance Jr. as their listed centers.
