Austin Reaves emerged as one of the most important variables for the Los Angeles Lakers’ success. Playing with Luka Doncic, the duo combined to give the purple and gold brigade a memorable run this February. Unfortunately, with injury getting the better of him, even LeBron James admitted Reaves’ importance for the team. Thankfully, as the 27-year-old shooting guard recovered in time, a secret Los Angeles Dodgers’ biomechanics laboratory seems to have done the trick.

The 2023 NBA Cup champion went through some grueling injury struggles this season. Suffering from an oblique strain, JJ Redick and Co. tried to get Reaves back before their playoff run against the Oklahoma City Thunder. According to a recent report from ‘Yahoo Sports,’ the Arkansas native had access to the Dodgers’ biomechanics laboratory.

“During his injury recovery in the playoffs, Austin Reaves used the Dodgers biomechanics lab,” as per Yahoo Sports.

Surely, the ploy worked, as Reaves did return and had some impressive games despite the team failing as a whole. Interestingly, Rob Pelinka noted that the Lakers are currently considering access to a similar facility for all their players.

“We’re working in collaboration with some of the Dodgers folks to bring in a biomechanics lab,” Pelinka said.

One of the biggest reasons why the 6-foot-5 star was able to collaborate with the Dodgers was Mark Walter. Owning both the franchise, Walter made the dream crossover a reality.

Meanwhile, coming back to the Lakers’ star, Reaves might be in for a massive payday.

Will Austin Reaves Get an Eight-Figure Contract Next?

The 22-year-old has had a phenomenal season. So much so that even King James couldn’t hide his admiration. In the regular season, the Lakers’ star averaged 23.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 5.5 assists. He also had a field goal percentage of 49%. In fact, in Game 4 against the Thunder, the shooting guard put up 27 points in 43 minutes.

Looking at his exceptional showing, ‘The Athletic’ reported that the Lakers’ star can get a contract offer of up to $40 million in free agency. “While team and league sources believe that the Lakers and Reaves will eventually land on a contract that makes sense, the door for Reaves to walk is open should he get a big offer elsewhere.

Rival executives predicted Reaves could command $40 million a season due to a combination of his play, his age and, perhaps most importantly, a free-agent class completely devoid of players as productive as him in their prime,” the report read.

Thus, with a lot going on, fans will be eager to see what’s next.
