Bam Adebayo of the Miami Heat and Jaylen Brown of the Boston Celtics may have missed out on the championship this season, but they’re still vying for a prestigious honor in the NBA.

The league recently announced that Adebayo and Brown, along with Harrison Barnes (San Antonio), Tobias Harris (Detroit), and Larry Nance Jr. (Cleveland), have been named the five finalists for the 2026 NBA Social Justice Champion award.

“As we honor the sixth year of the NBA Social Justice Champion award, join us in recognizing Bam Adebayo, Harrison Barnes, Jaylen Brown, Tobias Harris, and Larry Nance Jr. as the finalists for the 2025-26 season. This award honors NBA Hall of Famer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and his lifetime commitment to driving impactful change around social justice.” Via NBA.

This award, officially named the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Social Justice Champion award, celebrates players who champion social justice and illustrate the NBA’s core values: equality, respect, and inclusion. Adebayo and Brown are proving that their influence extends well beyond the hardwood.

REPORT: Brad Stevens Will Evaluate Interest in Trading Jaylen Brown

The Celtics faced an outcome no one saw coming: a first-round exit at the hands of the Philadelphia 76ers. The aftermath has been anything but quiet, with Tracy McGrady igniting rumors about Jaylen Brown’s potential frustrations within the team.

This bold statement has set off a frenzy of speculation. It also left fans and analysts alike wondering about Brown’s future in Boston. Adding fuel to the fire, reports suggest that Brad Stevens is actively exploring the trade market for the star player.

“Rival front offices are already preparing for a big change to happen to the Celtics’ roster this offseason, and team president Brad Stevens will evaluate the market for what upgrade he could possibly make in a trade involving Brown, sources said. However, this is not to say definitively that the Celtics will even consider trading Brown, as Stevens’ comments in his end-of-season interview didn’t hint one way or the other,” via Brett Siegel.

Could this be the dawn of a new era for the Celtics? Only time will reveal what lies ahead for Brown. However, one thing is crystal clear: he is one of the key players as we head into the offseason.
