One of the big questions that has loomed over the NBA this offseason has been the fate of star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo and what his future holds with the Milwaukee Bucks. At 30 years old, Antetokounmpo has been with the Bucks for the entirety of his stellar 12-year career, leading the team to the NBA title in 2021 and earning nine All-NBA selections to go with two MVP awards.
But the Bucks, after being eliminated in the first round of the postseason for the third straight season, appear to have hit a loggerheads in their attempts to remain among the East's contenders. Antetokounmpo has not asked for a trade, but he indicated he might.
“Probably," he told IShowSpeed earlier this month, speaking about staying in Milwaukee. "We’ll see. I love Milwaukee.”
Not exactly a firm commitment. But in a more pressing commitment, Antetokounmpo has, apparently, made a decision on how he will spend his summer--he is going to play in EuroBasket for the Greek national team, with the tournament beginning August 27 and the opening rounds being played in Finland, Latvia, Cyprus and Poland.
That announcement came from the FIBA website, the international governing body that oversees the EuroBasket tournament. "Giannis Antetokounmpo confirmed intention to play in 2025 EuroBasket," the site's posting said.

Greece won EuroBasket in 2005, with a deep team led by the likes of Theo Papaloukas, Lazaros Papadopoulos and Dimitris Diamantidis. The group has not had much success lately, though, finishing fifth in 2017, eighth in 2019 and fifth again in 2022. Antetokounmpo led the tournament in 2022, with 29.3 points per game, but Greece fell to Germany in the quarterfinals.
Greece is ranked No. 13 in the world by FIBA, and has a relatively soft group in EuroBasket, with Spain (No. 5) and Italy (No. 14) being the top competition, and Georgia (No. 24), Bosnia and Herzegovina (No. 41) and Cyprus (No. 84) likely to be easy wins.
