In the NBA, trade rumors never truly go away. The league has already begun hearing speculation about blockbuster transactions even before the offseason begins. One name that consistently fuels those conversations is Giannis Antetokounmpo, whose future with the Milwaukee Bucks has been a frequent topic of discussion in recent years.

However, this time the conversation isn’t just about where Giannis might fit next. It’s about whether a team should put everything on the line to acquire him. During a recent episode of 'The Bill Simmons Podcast', the veteran podcaster debated with ESPN’s Zach Lowe over a hypothetical offseason scenario involving the two-time MVP.

The trade idea suggested that the Miami Heat could offer a massive package to acquire Giannis. Lowe believed the Bucks would receive massive returns in any potential deal. “Bucks will get a motherload,” Lowe said. “I’ll stick with it. I think the Heat will trade everything we thought they would at the trade deadline. He’s still a top-five NBA player.”

Simmons, however, wasn’t nearly as convinced. “Is he?” Simmons replied. “He doesn’t play. He’s closer to Embiid than Jokic. He gets hurt all the time. I’d be really scared.” Adding to the injury concerns, Simmons created another hypothetical scenario involving Miami. “You’re telling me if I’m Miami I have to trade all my assets and sign you to a $280 million extension for four years and don’t know if you can play?” he said.

Lowe pushed back by acknowledging teams should be cautious about trading everything for star players but argued that Giannis has still been relatively consistent, often playing more than 60 games per season. Lowe also suggested that the timing of Giannis’ injuries also contributes to the current narrative.

Simmons, however, remained firm in his stance, saying he would hesitate to offer a massive trade package given the forward’s injury history. The Bucks star is currently sidelined after hyperextending his left knee and suffering a bone bruise. His return timeline remains unclear as Milwaukee risks losing a playoff berth.

Regardless, the impact of the “Greek Freak” will be significant wherever he plays. The Simmons–Lowe debate highlights just how complicated a potential pursuit of Giannis could be. While the Miami Heat were previously among the rumored teams interested in the 31-year-old, it remains unclear how his recent injuries might influence their approach.
