Bill Simmons is a huge supporter of Cam Whitmore, but how well does he expect things to go for him on the Washington Wizards?

The Washington Wizards have been quite active during this offseason period. In one of the more surprising moves so far, the Wizards traded Jordan Poole to the Pelicans for a hefty package.

Given the young project the Wizards are building, them moving on from Poole was a strange decision. But the Wizards are going younger, drafting Tre Johnson with the #6 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.

That’s not all the Wizards did. This weekend, the Wizards made a move to land Cam Whitmore from the Houston Rockets.

Many believe the franchise gave up a gem in Whitmore. But the Rockets passed up better deals to do right by Whitmore and make sure he lands in a good spot for him.

But are the Wizards that spot? While Bill Simmons is a believer in Cam Whitmore, he isn’t sure about the Wizards being the best fit for him.

Bill Simmons wonders whether Washington Wizards the best spot for Cam Whitmore

Speaking on his podcast, Bill Simmons discussed the Cam Whitmore trade to the Washington Wizards. He praised Whitmore for being a great scorer off the bench.

While Simmons believes Whitmore is a great system player, he questioned whether the Wizards were the right system for him. However, he did add that he likes the roster the team is building, even if this trade doesn’t make complete sense to him.

“The biggest thing is Whitmore Island. Whitmore was one I was watching because I’m still all-in on that dude.

“And I think in the right team and the right situation, that guy is instant offense off the bench. I don’t know if Washington is the right team or not. But I do like some of the assets they’re collecting. That was one of my favorites (trades).”

Discussing fits in the NBA is always going to be a challenge. Simmons, along with the rest of the NBA, will have to wait to see how Whitmore plays on the Wizards.

Washington Wizards building impressive roster with strong veterans

The Washington Wizards have formed a strong young core to build around, with Bilal Coulibaly, Alexandre Sarr, Tre Johnson, Will Riley, and now Cam Whitmore.

These are five impressive young talents that the franchise can develop into being cornerstones for the future.

But what helps the Wizards in that development is the fact that the Wizards also have some excellent veteran players.

Khris Middleton, Marcus Smart, and now CJ McCollum form the veteran base of the team that will help build a positive culture in Washington.

If things go right, their roster can be one of the best in the NBA for years to come. And it will be thanks to the shrewd moves they’ve made in the last few years.
