All eyes and conversations in the NBA focus on the Los Angeles Clippers and Kawhi Leonard controversy.

The situation began after investigative journalist Pablo Torre revealed that the Clippers allegedly cheated to pay Leonard over the salary cap.

Torre alleged that the Clippers and owner Steve Ballmer used a company called Aspiration to pay Kawhi Leonard $28 million.

However, Aspiration is no longer in business and Leonard never worked for the company, with Torre labeling it as a ‘no show job’.

Bill Simmons shocked by sloppy nature of alleged scheme

Steve Ballmer has denied any wrongdoing and blamed Aspiration for the controversy, claiming no contact with Leonard over the matters.

The allegations have created significant reaction from the NBA community, including senior insider Bill Simmons.

Simmons expressed shock at the allegations because he believes Ballmer is too smart and methodical to cheat in such a careless manner.

“I read all this stuff and the way it was all laid out, it was pretty damning that there was more than a smoking gun here,” Simmons explained.

“This was so sloppy that it almost makes me think, from everything I know about Ballmer, how shrewd of a businessman he is, how thoughtful he is about everything, like even how he did the Intuit Dome, every, every piece of that place he put so much thought into.”

Simmons emphasized Ballmer’s reputation as a detail-oriented executive who wouldn’t typically do sloppy stuff.

“And I just think he’s like a really ‘on it’ guy. He’s not like a ‘cut corners old billionaire’ who just ‘f___ it whatever’, he’s really on it.”

Steve Ballmer calls for league-wide investigation amid controversy

The analyst concluded his assessment by questioning whether someone of Ballmer’s caliber would execute such an apparently flawed scheme.

“And all of this that was laid out, I just can’t believe he was this dumb. That’s kind of where I’ve landed, and maybe, maybe he was this dumb, but I can’t believe he was this dumb.”

Ballmer has gained defenders, including former Dallas Mavericks majority owner Mark Cuban.

The Clippers owner has also called for parity in the NBA following this controversy, hoping for investigations around the league.

The situation continues developing as the NBA community awaits potential league action regarding the serious salary cap violation allegations.
