Bill Simmons Sees Hornets Fit for Kon Knueppel in NBA Draft

The NBA draft is around the corner, and with the Charlotte Hornets holding the No. 4 pick, speculation is heating up. But it was a conversation between famed sports commentator Bill Simmons and Duke sharpshooter Kon Knueppel that lit up draft chatter recently.

“I personally think you make a ton of sense for Charlotte,” Simmons told Knueppel on The Bill Simmons Podcast . “Charlotte’s kind of perfect with LaMelo, Bridges and Miller. They clearly need someone like you.”

For Hornets fans starved for winning basketball, Simmons’ words might be more than wishful thinking. They could be the beginning of a compelling match.

A Shooting Star Rises at Duke

Knueppel is coming off a strong freshman season with the Blue Devils, averaging 14.4 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game, while shooting 41.2% from three-point range. But it’s not just the numbers, it’s how he adapted.

“Something I learned big time here at Duke this year is my first time not being the best player on a team,” Knueppel said. “Learning how to affect the game when the ball is not in your hands… I feel pretty confident in like any situation I’m going to go into.”

That self-awareness could be the key to his NBA success, and exactly what a team like Charlotte needs. With LaMelo Ball commanding the offense and Brandon Miller rising as a young star, Knueppel’s ability to space the floor and contribute without dominating the ball makes him a natural fit.

A Seamless Addition to Charlotte’s Core?

Simmons didn’t stop at praise, he painted a full picture of what Knueppel could bring to the Queen City.

“If they keep their nucleus together, I could just see you on that team,” Simmons said.

Knueppel agrees. “You can get on the court shooting anywhere,” he said. “You can play for any team if you can shoot the ball.”

Draft Day Watch: June 25

As the Hornets front office looks to build around its young trio, Knueppel’s name should be circled on the draft board. He’s not flashy, but he’s efficient, cerebral, and built to complement the talent already in place.

Hornets fans, mark your calendars, as Wednesday, June 25 could bring a new piece to the puzzle. And if Simmons is right, that piece might be Kon Knueppel.
