Griffin praises Flagg’s versatility over Wembanyama’s skill set

Griffin considers Flagg more complete than Victor Wembanyama, despite the Spurs center’s proven ability as a skilled big man who can shoot and defend at elite levels.

“I think he’s the most complete player that we’ve seen come into the NBA in recent memory. I mean, I’m not saying he doesn’t have room to grow. He still has a ton of room to grow, but I mean, he passes, he shoots, he defends, he rebounds, he seems like a great teammate, he seems like a great kid. What’s the red flag?” Griffin said about Flagg.

“It is really exciting for basketball to have players like these young guys. I mean, even Wemby is very complete as well, but Cooper is just able to play so many different positions, guard so many different positions. That’s exciting.”

Flagg demonstrated his potential during his college career by breaking numerous records and generating nationwide attention throughout his freshman campaign.

Dallas Mavericks provide ideal developmental environment for Flagg

Griffin believes Flagg possesses a significant advantage over most number one picks , including himself and LeBron James, joining a competitiv e Dallas Mavericks roster rather than a rebuilding franchise.

“I also love this in Dallas. I think they have a really solid team around them. Most number one picks are going to teams that haven’t been doing too great in the past, but I’m just excited for him to start this journey. I don’t know if I have advice. I mean, it just seems like kid’s got it figured out.”

Flagg will play alongside championship-caliber veterans Anthony Davis, Klay Thompson, and Kyrie Irving, providing valuable mentorship for his development.

Whether Flagg can surpass Wembanyama’s early accomplishments remains uncertain.

The Spurs center earned Rookie of the Year, Defensive Team selection, and All-Star recognition in his first two seasons.
