A pair of Trail Blazers centers have had their rookie scale team options for the 2027/28 season exercised, as the team announced today in a press release that it has picked up Donovan Clingan’s fourth-year option and Yang Hansen’s third-year option.
Clingan, who has been Portland’s starting center since February 2025, averaged a double-double (12.1 PPG, 11.6 RPG) in 77 games last season while also blocking 1.7 shots per game. He’s producing at a similar level in the early going this fall, averaging 9.3 PPG and 9.0 RPG in 22.3 MPG for the 3-0 Blazers.
Clingan, earning about $7.52MM this season, now has a guaranteed $9.55MM salary for the 2027/28 season. He’ll become eligible for a rookie scale extension next July and will be a restricted free agent in 2028 if he hasn’t signed a new contract before then.
While Clingan has emerged as a crucial contributor in Portland, Yang remains a developmental project at the start of his second season. The 16th pick in the 2025 draft, the 21-year-old made 43 regular season appearances as a rookie, averaging 2.2 PPG and 1.5 RPG in 7.0 MPG. He saw some garbage-time action in the Blazers’ blowout win over Phoenix last Wednesday but hasn’t played in the two games since then.
Yang will make $4.64MM this season and now has a guaranteed $4.86MM salary in 2027/28. The Blazers will have to decide a year from now whether or not to exercise his $7.46MM option for ’28/29.
