Bobby Marks Says Jordan Poole's Contract Is Among The Worst In The NBA
Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports

Jordan Poole has gone from one of the NBA's bright young stars to one of the worst-value players within less than a season. ESPN front office insider Bobby Marks revealed that teams around the NBA are looking at Poole's four-year, $128 million contract as one of the worst in the entire NBA.

(Starts at 12:55)

"I think where Golden State caught a break, and I was talking to a couple of teams about this. The Jordan Poole contract, which I thought at the time was a good value deal, a lot of teams are talking about it as one of the worst contracts in the NBA right now. (The Warriors) caught a break by flipping that because if you had been stuck with that, then you'd be headed to purgatory from a cap standpoint."

Poole is in the first year of this contract, something he earned from the Warriors after the end of their 2022 championship-winning season. Poole proved to be good value for the deal last year, averaging 20.4 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 4.5 assists in the regular season as an iron man.

A playoff meltdown along with his public rivalry with Draymond Green meant the Warriors had to send him to the Wizards along with picks as a salary dump to acquire Chris Paul

Poole is averaging 15.6 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 3.7 assists this season, looking like a shadow of his former self at age 24. Many people were optimistic that getting to run his team in Washington would lead to a James Harden-esque growth for Poole, but those hopes are long gone after he's barely been able to maintain a rotational spot on the 9-45 Wizards.

Former NBA Veteran Thinks Jordan Poole Is To Blame For His Struggles

The competitive environment on the Wizards is not good at all, with the team being a bottom-feeder this season with players that would rather pad their stats on a bad team than be competitive on a good team. The environment isn't the best for a young player to thrive, but Poole's issues aren't because of the Wizards.

He has repeatedly made selfish plays which have resulted in lowlights along with clips of him disrespecting former head coach Wes Unseld Jr. Former NBA veteran Chandler Parsons explained what he thinks is the reason behind Poole's failures in Washington.

"He's young, he's immature, and he's arrogant. That is all three of those things is this play, and that's why he's had some personality issues. The kid can hoop. He belongs in the NBA... I think he's being silly and this is who he is."

He is still 24 years old and proved what he could do in a winning situation with the Warriors. There's a chance that Washington can tap into the winning mentality he displayed in Golden State, but it won't be easy. Trading him to a new situation makes no sense right now, as the Wizards are rebuilding and could salvage Poole's value as another year or two are tacked off his contract.

Moving real assets to get rid of Poole makes little sense for Washington unless the team regresses with him to a point that keeping him on is hurting the franchise. They'll have a high-lottery pick in the 2024 NBA Draft and could end up with guard prospects like Rob Dillingham, Isaiah Collier, or Nikola Topic who'd likely take Poole's spot.

The uncertainty surrounding the Boston Celtics this offseason, especially at the big man position, has another new wrinkle added, as a free agent made his intentions known about signing with the team. Green Bay Packers: Jordan Love’s ‘Fiery’ Response to Wife’s Take on Franchise’s Timeless Tradition

Green Bay Packers star quarterback Jordan Love and his wife, Ronika Stone Love, are truly in, well, love. The couple just got married in June, and with the Packers deep into their preparation for the upcoming 2025 NFL season, Ronika shows full support for her husband. In a social media post on Instagram, Ronika shared a series of photos from last Saturday’s Packers Family Night at Lambeau Field. The first photo on the post shows a happy Ronika in the arms of the former Utah State Aggies star signal-caller. “My version of a Lambeau Leap,” Ronika wrote as a caption. Last season, Love played in 15 games, throwing for a total of 3,389 passing yards to go along with 25 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. That year was considered a down one for Love, but many expect him to come up with a bigger performance in 2025, as Green Bay looks to surpass its 11-win total in 2024. Fans react to Jordan Love’s wife’s Green Bay Packers Lambeau Leap Apart from Love, many others reacted to Ronika’s heartwarming post. Aaron Boone addresses Alex Rodriguez’s criticism of Yankees

New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone responded Sunday, one day after Alex Rodriguez suggested his team lacks discipline and accountability. On FOX’s MLB pregame show Saturday, Rodriguez questioned the “accountability” of the Yankees after Boone did not pull Jazz Chisholm from Saturday’s loss to Miami after the infielder made a brutal baserunning blunder. Rodriguez suggested that the Yankees do not face consequences for such mistakes, and that it has contributed to further errors. “If any one of us made a mistake, we would be sitting our butt right on the bench,” Rodriguez said. “I see mistake after mistake, and there’s no consequences.” Boone took issue with those remarks when asked about them on Sunday. He said he accepts that the Yankees will always face added scrutiny, but that he disagreed with the substance of Rodriguez’s remarks. “I would disagree a little bit with the accountability factor, but the reality is, we’re focused every day on being the best we can be,” Boone said, via Bryan Hoch of MLB.com. “That’s how we have to do it. But I understand when it doesn’t happen, or we don’t have the record that I think we should have, or certainly people think we should have — that comes with the territory.” Boone is known for keeping things positive publicly, even when things are going poorly for the Yankees. That has led to some criticism from fans, who feel that he goes too easy on his players when they are underperforming. The team’s recent stretch of mediocre play combined with a lack of consequences for errors like Chisholm’s have reinforced those critiques. The Yankees lost again on Sunday and were swept by the Marlins, dropping them to 60-51 on the season. Until the team starts consistently winning again, Boone is going to hear more comments like Rodriguez’s.

Former Yankees Standouts Lose Jobs After Trade Deadline

The MLB trade deadline has come and gone, and in its wake are dozens of roster moves making way for new faces in new places. As a result, several players got their walking papers. The list includes three former New York Yankees contributors. On Friday, the San Diego Padres designated for assignment infielder Tyler Wade and optioned reliever Ron Marinaccio. "Wade was the final roster casualty to accommodate newcomers Freddy Fermin , Ramon Laureano and Ryan O'Hearn," MLB Trade Rumors reported. "This is the second DFA of the season for Wade. He didn’t make the team out of Spring Training and was outrighted off the roster. Wade accepted a minor league assignment and was called back up a couple weeks into the season. " Wade played in 59 games this season, hitting . 206. The 30-year-old played in 90 games last year with the Padres, hitting .217. MLB Trade Rumors reports San Diego will place Wade on waivers. "There’s a decent chance he’ll clear, at which point he’d again have the right to elect free agency," according to the site. "He bypassed that last time around but may feel his path back to a roster spot with the Padres is more cluttered." New York selected Wade in the fourth round of the 2013 MLB Draft. The versatile infielder made his major-league debut in 2017 with the Yankees. He played five seasons in the Bronx before being traded to the Los Angeles Angels after the 2021 season. Marianccio, a 30-year-old right-hander from Toms River, N.J., made two appearances this year with the Padres, throwing a total of 2 2/3 innings of shutout ball. The Yankees selected Marinaccio in the 19th round of the 2017 MLB Draft. He played for New York from 2022 to 2024, posting a 3.22 ERA in 101 appearances. The Yankees waived Marianccio last September. On Saturday, the Chicago Cubs designated for assignment reliever Brooks Kriske. They needed to clear space on the roster for right-hander Michael Soroka, who went to Chicago in a deadline deal with the Washington Nationals. Kriske, a 31-year-old right-hander, threw six shutout innings over four appearances this year for the Cubs. The Yankees selected Kriske in the sixth round of the 2016 MLB Draft. He debuted in the Bronx in 2020 and spent parts of 2021 with the big-league club. Kriske made a total of 12 appearances for New York with a 15.09 ERA. Yes, you read that right. He gave up 19 earned runs in 11 1/3 innings of work. The Yankees waived Kriske in September of 2021.
