The Boston Celtics suffered one of the biggest blows to their roster after Jayson Tatum suffered a non-contact leg injury. On Monday, the Celtics played Game 4 of their Eastern Conference semifinals against the New York Knicks. With three minutes left in the fourth quarter, Boston would suffer a difficult setback when Tatum went down with a leg injury.
The All-Star forward had to be carried off the court and put in a wheelchair on his way to the locker room. Without their main star player, the Celtics didn’t have enough to go blow-for-blow against the Knicks. The defending champions went on to suffer a 121-113 defeat to trail 3-1 in the best-of-seven series.
As of this writing, there hasn’t been any update on the team about why Tatum is injured and the severity of it. Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla told reporters after the game that the six-time All-Star is set to have an MRI on Tuesday. Mazzulla also described it as a lower-body injury.
Following their loss, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst revealed that the Celtics’ locker room was silent. Windhorst said that his colleague, Tim Bontemps, was able to be inside the room after the game.
“Our Tim Bontemps was in the Celtics locker room after the game and he said it was the quietest locker room he had ever heard,” Windhorst said on ESPN. “They know that the rest of this series is in serious doubt.”

Jayson Tatum tried to carry the Celtics in Game 4. He had 42 points and eight rebounds in 40 minutes of action. His co-star, Jaylen Brown, didn’t have the words to describe the situation they are currently in.
“I’ve got no words right now,” Brown said.
Jayson Tatum has done his best to remain healthy at all times. In his career, he’s never suffered a series setback and has always been present for the Celtics. However, the injury he sustained against the Knicks might tell otherwise.
While there isn’t any update on what Tatum’s injury is, many believe it’s a serious one. Longtime fan of the Celtics, Bill Simmons, shared his reaction to the All-Star forward’s injury.
“This could go down as one of the darker Celtics days, I mean, honestly. Not to mention that he’s at the peak of his career. He’s never had a major injury, Tatum. If this is like a major one, it doesn’t just take him out for this playoffs but also for all of next year, too. As you said, he’s in his late 20s and you just wonder if he’s able to get back to the point that he was at tonight, so we’ll find out,” Simmons said.
With the upcoming MRI, fans are hoping it isn’t anything serious.
