The only known bidder for the Boston Celtics at this time is current co-owner Steve Pagliuca, but the team is planning on receiving four or five offers by Thursday.
"The first round of bids is due on January 23. The team expects at least four, and possibly five, bids from prospective ownership groups. The Grousbeck family is expecting the sale price to exceed $6 billion."
Previously it was estimated the Celtics would sell for north of $5 million, but according to Michael Silverman of the Boston Globe the Grousbeck's are now expecting the winning bidder to pay more than $6 million for the team. Hopefully the winning bidder still has enough money left after the purchase not to worry about exceeding the luxury tax and its aprons and will maximize the team's chances of competing by spending whatever is neccessary on contracts.
