'Both Sides Were Ready' – Golden State Warriors’ Situtation With Jonathan Kuminga Gets an Update

On Sunday, NBA insider Jake Fischer gave an update on the Golden State Warriors’ case with Kuminga.

“Both sides were ready to part ways. Except, no trade has come together,” Fischer reported.

“Sacramento has been the name most often linked to Kuminga, but no deal is reportedly even close to being finalized.

Fischer also revealed that the Chicago Bulls have an interest in trading for Kuminga. The organization has also reached out to Golden State and talked about a potential trade. However, the Warriors reportedly do not want Nikola Vucevic in a deal.

“The Suns have reportedly had early discussions about a sign-and-trade, and they are intrigued by him, but nothing is close because the Warriors want a first-round pick in any Kuminga trade, and the Suns lack draft capital.”

Kuminga is just one of the Warriors’ many concerns this summer. They’re the only organization that hasn’t made a move since free agency started. They lost a 10-year veteran, Kevon Looney, who signed with the New Orleans Pelicans.

Kuminga doesn’t want to return to the Golden State Warriors

Despite winning an NBA championship with the Golden State Warriors, Kuminga is adamant about putting his career first and playing a specific role. The 6-foot-8 forward wants to become a star in the league, and he doesn’t think it’ll happen with the Warriors. Especially since Kerr preferred playing other players over him.

According to a report from Brett Siegel, the Warriors forward isn’t interested in continuing his career in Golden State. One of the reasons has something to do with how much he wants for his next deal. While Kuminga is demanding more, the organization wants to sign him to a more affordable contract.

“Kuminga’s camp want a big deal in the $30M+ range and don’t want to be back with Warriors,” Siegel posted. “Golden State wants a small deal in $20M range where they can flip him because there’s no market. Dubs still holding out that a [sign and trade] with Chicago Bulls can happen. Ayo Dosunmu is a good player.”

For now, all the fans can do is wait for the Warriors to make a decision.
