The Golden State Warriors are off to a 2-1 start to begin their season.

After winning their first two games of the season, the Golden State Warriors suffered a blowout loss to the Portland Trail Blazers.

Brandin Podziemski, who is seen as part of the Warriors’ future, has not had a good start to his 2025-26 campaign.

Podziemski started the Warriors’ first two games, but he was moved to the bench in the third game as Quinten Post started.

The 22-year-old has averaged just 8.7 points on 36.0 percent shooting from the field and 30.8 percent from three through the Warriors’ first three games.

Brandin Podziemski says he wants to be better than Stephen Curry, but no one buys it

This is not the kind of start Podziemski was hoping for, especially after he made a big claim about wanting to be better than Stephen Curry.

“I want to be better than him, I think that’s a tall task, but I want to maximize my talent in the league and get as much out of it as I can,” he said.

The quote has since received a lot of attention. Former NBA big man DeMarcus Cousins is one of many people who aren’t buying what Podziemski said.

“I’m not buying it… This is no knock to him, those are huge huge shoes to fill. I’m not mad at him, sometimes athletes are a little delusional, I can say I’ve been that way at times, it’s part of confidence.”

Podziemski’s remarks show that he’s inspired by Curry, but it also will put a lot of pressure on him to perform at a high level.

His struggles to begin the season aren’t helping his cause. Podziemski has prioritized confidence over technique, but he can’t make remarks that he’s unable to back up.

Cousins wasn’t the only one who didn’t buy what he was saying. Another former NBA player, Chandler Parsons, doesn’t think Podziemski can fill Curry’s shoes.

“I’m not buying it because those are big shoes to fill.

“Is he a piece of the future, yes. So is Moody, so is Kuminga. It’s one thing to believe it, you can believe it, you can say it…I like his game, he works hard, I think they like him, but to pass the torch to him as the next Steph Curry of the franchise, I can’t buy that.”

Podziemski will have to have a big turnaround this season if he hopes to be taken seriously again.
