Brian Scalabrine Continues To Throw Shade At Jaylen Brown

Boston Celtics superstar Jayson Tatum has taken the high road when it comes to his former co-star Jaylen Brown, but Brian Scalabrine is firing one shot after another at him. Scalabrine, a former Celtic and current NBC Sports Boston analyst, has taken offense at Brown’s recent antics and went off on him on SiriusXM NBA Radio.

“Jaylen Brown wants to be the victim in all of this, and this is the way he’s doing it now,” Scalabrine said, via NBA Central. He’s using me, or his PR team, or whatever it is, to play the victim, and he’s not going to take responsibility for it. That’s fine…I just feel like he wants to say whatever he wants, and he doesn’t want to be held accountable, just like on his Twitch.

“He wants his legacy to remain intact, and he’s not going to take responsibility for the other stuff that he brings up,” Scalabrine added. “And this is just the beginning of it.”

This all stems from Tatum claiming he was caught off guard by the Celtics trading Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers for Paul George, two first-round picks, and two second-round picks. He couldn’t believe his longtime teammate was traded down the road.

Well, Brown claimed Tatum was lying by posting the cap emoji in response. That unsurprisingly led to a lot of chatter about tension between the two men who had been together on the Celtics for nine seasons.

Tatum then felt compelled to speak out and make it clear there is no beef between them. That should have been that, but Brown couldn’t help himself. The five-time All-Star said that Tatum has a great PR team. Brown also added, “There’s no beef, but it might be a little lamb chops.”

Scalabrine reacted to this drama by claiming that Brown had actually demanded a trade from the Celtics. The 48-year-old walked back those comments later but insisted the forward had made various demands to the team.

A representative from Brown’s camp then denied there was any trade demand or list of demands, which appears to have prompted that response from Scalabrine. He then later threw shade at Brown during the Celtics’ 125-124 overtime win over the Brooklyn Nets at TD Garden on Tuesday.

“If I was doing PR work for Jayson Tatum, I would remind everybody who led the league in turnovers last year,” Scalabrine said. “But I’m not doing that… It actually is too easy.”

Brown had led the league with 259 turnovers in 2025-26. To bring that up and sort of dismiss what he did last season for the Celtics was a bit absurd.

With Tatum recovering from a torn Achilles, Brown powered the Celtics to a 56-26 record. The 30-year-old averaged 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, 5.1 assists, 1.0 steals, and 0.4 blocks per game, and finished sixth in MVP voting.

It’s understandable if someone isn’t pleased about Brown’s antics, but he deserves respect for what he accomplished. He hasn’t responded to Scalabrine’s taunts yet, but you’d imagine he will at some point.
