Former ESPN reporter and President Trump administration employee Britt McHenry is opening up about what “truly happened” at the Washington Wizards game in D.C. last week.
McHenry, a former reporter at ESPN turned political communications expert for President Trump’s administration, got into it with some other fans at last week’s Wizards vs. Bucks game.
TMZ Sports first reported that McHenry had been ushered out of the game at Capital One Arena after getting into it with some fans. She allegedly threw a drink at someone before getting ushered out.
“Sources close to Britt tell TMZ there’s more to the story … claiming people sitting behind her and her male guest were making inappropriate comments about Kyle Kuzma‘s fiancée, Winnie Harlow … and Britt responded. Kuzma used to play for the Wizards and now plays for the Milwaukee Bucks, their opponent in Wednesday’s game,” they reported.
“Our sources don’t recall exactly what prompted Britt to throw the drink, but say it was part of the confrontation … and claim things were thrown at her, too. They also claim the group behind them were saying inappropriate and misogynistic things to Britt to instigate her.”
McHenry later resigned from her position as a U.S. State Department press advisor.
Wednesday night, she released a video, explaining what “really happened” at the game.
McHenry says that she was being critical of some fans who were taunting the significant other of Bucks forward Kyle Kuzma, who used to play for the Wizards. Kuzma is dating model Winnie Harlow.
McHenry said the fans were calling Kuzma’s partner “hideous” and compared her to Michael Jackson, among others.
The former ESPN reporter made a “snarky” comment, taunting the opposing fan about his potential significant other.
The fan then told McHenry to “shut up” and called her an “expletive.”
Things escalated from there. McHenry and her friend temporarily left the seats and were told by an usher they could move seats. When they returned to their seats, things got even worse.
“This is what truly happened at the Wizards game. I could say a lot more, but I already lost my job for it. I believe in sticking up for another woman, which is what I did, and for yourself when you’re being heckled and harassed,” she explained.

McHenry lost her job because of the incident, but she’s not apologizing for what happened, as she believes she needed to stand up for other women.
