Forward Kyle Kuzma is entering his first full season with the Milwaukee Bucks after arriving at last year’s trade deadline from the Washington Wizards. He struggled to find his footing in coach Doc Rivers’ offensive system and had trouble defensively, which only magnified his inconsistency. Kuzma started 32 of 33 games for Milwaukee during the regular season, averaging 14.5 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists while shooting 45.5% from the field and 33.3% from three-point range.
In the playoffs, the 30-year-old forward continued to underperform, scoring just 29 total points across five games in the Bucks’ first-round loss to the Indiana Pacers. As a result, he entered the 2025–26 season in a bench role.
With starting wing Kevin Porter Jr. sidelined due to an ankle sprain, Kuzma saw increased minutes in Friday’s game against the Toronto Raptors. He logged 16 minutes by halftime and was having a strong shooting night, going 4-of-5 from the field for eight points and three rebounds.
However, with 11:07 remaining in the third quarter, Kuzma exited and headed to the locker room with trainers. Moments later, the Bucks announced he would not return to the game. “Per Bucks PR, Kyle Kuzma has a left ankle sprain and will not return to tonight's game,” reported Eric Nehm of The Athletic.

It is an unfortunate setback for Milwaukee, especially with Porter already out and the team’s wing depth stretched thin. Kuzma’s return to being a positive contributor this year will be important to the Bucks as they are continuing to try and expand Antetokounmpo’s competitive window. Milwaukee is the third organization that Kuzma has suited up for in his nine-year career, previously playing for the Los Angeles Lakers and Wizards.
Kuzma’s experience and scoring versatility still offer value, especially in lineups that need spacing and secondary creation. While his defensive limitations have been exposed in high-leverage moments, the Bucks remain hopeful that a defined role and reduced expectations can help him thrive.
He has shown flashes of strong play in transition and has improved his catch-and-shoot consistency over the past two seasons. Milwaukee’s coaching staff has emphasized accountability and effort on both ends, and Kuzma’s ability to respond to that challenge could determine how much trust he earns moving forward.
