Bucks’ entire offseason comes down to the Giannis question

The Bucks don’t have a small question this offseason. They have the question.

According to ESPN’s Bobby Marks, everything in Milwaukee comes back to Giannis Antetokounmpo — and whether the franchise can reach clarity on his future.

Co-owner Wes Edens didn’t dance around it.

“Giannis is going into the last year,” Edens told ESPN. “So one of two things will happen: Either he will be extended or he’ll be traded.”

That’s about as direct as it gets.

Antetokounmpo will be eligible for a massive extension this fall, potentially worth up to $275 million. But signing it likely depends on whether he believes the Bucks can still build a contender around him.

That part isn’t so simple. Milwaukee is coming off a season that will end without a playoff appearance, and while help could arrive in the form of a top-10 pick, the roster is largely set.

Most of the core remains under contract, with several key players holding options.

So the path forward? Not entirely clear.

An extension would signal belief on both sides. A trade would change everything.

And as Marks laid out, even that comes with questions — from how much leverage Giannis would have to whether teams would risk everything without a long-term guarantee.

Either way, this is the decision that will define the Bucks’ offseason.
