Bucks center Jericho Sims intends to exercise his player option for the 2026/27 season, league sources tell Michael Scotto of HoopsHype ( Twitter link). By opting in, Sims will forgo unrestricted free agency in favor of a guaranteed $2,801,346 salary for next season.
Sims, 27, was sent from the Knicks to the Bucks at the 2025 trade deadline in the four-team deal that also included Khris Middleton and Kyle Kuzma. The 6’10” big man made a strong enough impression in a limited role down the stretch of that season to earn a new two-year, minimum-salary contract with a second-year player option from Milwaukee in free agency last summer.
In his first full season as a Buck, Sims made a career-high 67 appearances and 19 starts. He averaged 5.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 1.6 assists in 19.7 minutes per game. An athletic, rim-running center who takes most of his shots right around the basket, the former Texas Longhorn is a career 74.2% shooter who bumped that number up to 78.4% last season.
Picking up his option doesn’t necessarily mean Sims will return to the Bucks, who are in the midst of retooling their roster — it likely wouldn’t be too difficult to move his modest expiring contract to a team in need of frontcourt depth.
However, he could still be in Milwaukee’s plans going forward, especially if starting center Myles Turner ends up being traded this offseason. Former Heat center Kel’el Ware, who is part of the Giannis Antetokounmpo trade package, also figures to be a significant factor at the five for the Bucks next season.
