The former Wisconsin standout and 2022 Big Ten Player of the Year is returning home to join the Wisconsin Herd in the G League. While the deal’s terms remain undisclosed, Davis is expected to sign an Exhibit 10 contract and be waived by Saturday, making him eligible for a bonus of up to $85,300 if he spends at least 60 days with the Herd.
Johnny Davis is heading back to familiar territory, having grown up in La Crosse and played college basketball for the Wisconsin Badgers. The 23-year-old guard entered the league as the 10th overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft after two standout years at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
The 6-foot-5 guard struggled to meet expectations during his time with the Wizards, spanning parts of three seasons before being dealt to Memphis in February. However, his stint with the Grizzlies was short-lived, as he was waived just weeks later without logging a single game.
Davis wrapped up last season playing in the G League for the Westchester Knicks, New York’s affiliate team. After spending the offseason without a contract, he has now secured a new opportunity with the Bucks.
Across 112 career appearances with Washington, Davis posted averages of 3.5 points and 1.6 rebounds in 11.4 minutes per game while shooting 39.7% from the field, 27.3% from beyond the arc, and 56.1% from the free-throw line. The Bucks currently have two open roster spots, so signing Davis requires no corresponding move.
The Milwaukee Bucks have also secured AJ Green with a four-year, $45 million fully guaranteed extension. Green, known for his elite shooting, is viewed as a vital piece of the team’s core and is expected to step into a starting role this season. Without this deal, he would have entered free agency next summer. Following weeks of uncertainty about the extension, the finalized agreement brings a sense of reassurance for both Green and the Bucks organization.
Although $45 million is a significant investment, it may prove to be a steal by the time Green’s contract concludes, or possibly even before the season ends. Now in his fourth year out of Iowa, many Bucks fans and analysts expect Green to have a breakout campaign in 2025-26.
As the NBA season tips off in just a few days, all attention turns to the Bucks, whose reshaped roster and the ongoing Giannis Antetokounmpo saga have everyone eagerly watching.
