Through 14 games of the season, the Chicago Bulls either played catch-up or struggled to hold onto leads, but that wasn't the story Monday against the Detroit Pistons. Chicago got significant contributions from its big-name players en route to a 122-112 road victory.
Led by Nikola Vucevic, the Bulls built a healthy lead by the end of the first quarter. The Pistons did not have an answer for Vucevic, who scored 13 points while shooting 3/3 beyond the arc in the first quarter.

Typically, teams struggle in the second game of a back-to-back, but it seemed the Bulls also flipped the script on that story. While their defense structure still left much to be desired, the Bulls upped their effort level on every possession. There was even a double technical call on Dalen Terry and Isaiah Stewart because of a physical defensive possession by Terry.

In the second half, Vucevic picked up where he left by scoring an efficient 12 points in the third quarter, bolstered by timely shots from Coby White. Chicago also got some help from Detroit as no other Piston aside from Malik Beasley and Cade Cunningham provided three-point shooting.
Vucevic also just sank his 800th career 3-pointer. According to @BullsPR, Vucevic is one of 3 players in NBA history to record 800 3-pointers and 9,500 rebounds. LeBron James and Dirk Nowitzki are the others https://t.co/xrsjlLeP4J

But no matter how inefficient the Pistons were, they didn't allow the Bulls' lead to get out of reach. Detroit stayed consistent by attacking the rim through pick and rolls and hunting for mismatches on defense.

Yet for seemingly every two-point shot the Pistons made in the fourth quarter, Zach LaVine followed with a three-point shot. After a quiet start to the game, LaVine shot 6/8 from the three-point line to give the Bulls 18 points all in the final frame.

No matter how well the Pistons defended LaVine, they didn't have an answer, as was the case against Vucevic earlier in the game. White finished the game with 25 points despite not posting a double-digit scoring quarter like LaVine and Vucevic.

The Bulls prevailed with a solid road victory, representing a significant turnaround from their blowout home loss to the Houston Rockets on Monday.
The Bulls conclude their two-game road trip Wednesday when they visit the Milwaukee Bucks at Fiserv Forum. Tip-off is at 6:30 p.m. CT and the game will air on Chicago Sports Network (CHSN).
