Bulls, Nets, Wizards, Suns Considered Landing Spots For Warriors’ Jonathan Kuminga

Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga becomes a restricted free agent this summer.

As a restricted free agent, Kuminga can either re-sign with the Warriors or sign an offer sheet with another team.

Golden State would have 48 hours to match an offer sheet or let Kuminga walk.

According to Anthony Slater and Marcus Thompson II of The Athletic, Kuminga and the Warriors are expected to explore sign-and-trade options this summer.

“A reunion between the sides is still on the table, league sources said,” Slater and Thompson II wrote. “But both sides are expected to explore sign-and-trade scenarios, those sources said, which would open up the market and theoretically give Kuminga the contract and fresh start he’d desire while bringing the Warriors back rotation players of immediate value.”

Most NBA observers believe Kuminga wants to leave the Warriors since he was benched by head coach Steve Kerr.

With that said, Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report thinks the Chicago Bulls, Brooklyn Nets, Washington Wizards and Phoenix Suns are logical landing spots for Kuminga.

“A breakup between Jonathan Kuminga and the Golden State Warriors has seemingly been brewing for a couple of years now, but the possibility started to feel like an eventuality when he was removed entirely from the team’s playoff rotation prior to Stephen Curry‘s hamstring injury,” Bailey wrote. “Now, with the Warriors eliminated by the Minnesota Timberwolves, we can start talking about his possible landing spots a bit more openly.

“It’s peak posturing season, too. And given Kuminga’s struggles to fit in alongside Jimmy Butler, there may be an offer sheet big enough to scare the Warriors off.”

Kuminga appeared in 47 games for the Warriors during the 2024-25 regular season. He averaged 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists while shooting 45.4% from the field, 30.5% from 3 and 66.8% from the foul line.

Kuminga turns 23 in October. He has career averages of 12.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.8 assists. A change of scenery may do wonders for the Goma native.
