Bulls sticking with glut of point guards by re-signing veteran

Coby White. Ayo Dosunmu. Josh Giddey. And now, Tre Jones is back for the most overloaded point guard room in the NBA.

Tre Jones, whose brother Tyus made a deal with the Orlando Magic Monday, agreed on a three-year, $24M deal to stay with the Chicago Bulls. The Spurs sent Jones to the Bulls as part of the De'Aaron Fox deal, and he's decided to stay in the Windy City long-term.

For their part, the Bulls have decided, at least for now, that there's no such thing as too many point guards.

White is 6-foot-5 and 195 pounds and a capable point guard, though he may be considered more of a shooting guard. Ayo Dosunmu is 6-foot-5 and 200 pounds and has logged plenty of minutes at the point. 6-foot-8, 216-pound Josh Giddey is the nominal point guard, though he and the Bulls will have to agree on a contract this summer.

And now Tre Jones is backing up one, or all of them. This might mean that one of the incumbent guards is on the trade block, as this is a tall group of guards that's fairly skinny. If one of these players has to shift to small forward, they're giving up a great deal of size and strength at the wing.

Tre Jones was right to grab the $24M and the financial security that comes with it. But it's hard to imagine that this team stands pat with four point guards all making significant money. Then again, this is the Bulls, and prudent basketball decisions are not what they're known for these days.
