Initial reports indicate the deal is a one-for-one swap.
Caruso has spent the last three seasons with the Bulls after signing a four-year deal before the 2021-22 season. The veteran has been a defensive staple for Chicago despite missing some time with injuries. In 179 games with the Bulls, Caruso averaged 7.8 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game while racking up a pair of All-Defensive honors over the last two seasons.
The Bulls reportedly turned down numerous trades for the guard at the deadline, including a deal that included a top-10 pick in the draft. Team owner Jerry Reinsdorf wanted the team to push for playoffs rather than look to the future. Now that summer has rolled around, opting for the 21-year-old Giddey feels like a different direction than just a few months ago.
Josh Giddey, a 21-year-old Australian, is coming off a 2023-24 season during which he averaged 12.1 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game in 80 contests. Giddey notched a career-high mark of 16.6 points per game in 2022-23.
The former sixth overall draft pick hasn't reached his potential in Oklahoma City due to the ample amount of talent on the Thunder's roster. Moving forward, Giddey should see a much larger opportunity in Chicago to team up with Coby White and Ayo Dosunmu in the Bulls' backcourt. Per reports, the Bulls are looking to part ways with Zach LaVine. His departure would result in more reps for Giddey.
