Byron Scott was a key piece to the Los Angeles Lakers of the 1980s, also known as the “Showtime Lakers.” He helped LA win three NBA championships.
LeBron James is the current star of the Lakers and in seven seasons, he’s led the Lakers to one NBA title. Despite this, Scott doesn’t believe King James deserves a statue in LA once he retires.
“I think if he gets another one, then he has a chance,” Scott said. “But right now, if you look at the players that have statues in front of Crypto.com [Arena], these are long lifers. They’ve been with the Lakers for almost their entire career, and they’ve had multiple championships.”
Scott’s point is valid, yet, LeBron is entering his eighth season with the Lakers, which is the same as Shaquille O’Neal, who has a statue. Shaq did lead LA to three chips, however.
Do you believe the Lakers should give LeBron a statue after he retires?
