Cam Christie Could Remain With Clippers Under One Condition

With the Oct. 19 opening night roster deadline looming, teams around the league have started frantically waiving players to create space on their rosters. In this regard, the Los Angeles Clippers were no different, as they waived Cam Christie on Oct. 14.

The decision to waive Cam Christie was quite shocking. Although the 21-year-old hadn’t performed very well in the 2025-26 season, averaging only 2.8 points, 1.4 rebounds, and 0.6 assists per game on 38.1% shooting from the field, the guard had shown promise as a developmental piece.

To that end, one could assume that waiving Cam Christie was a means to create some roster flexibility ahead of the new campaign. However, according to a recent report by NBA insider Jake Fischer, there appears to be a possibility of him returning, but on one condition.

Fischer stated that the Clippers would be willing to bring back Cam Christie if the 21-year-old was open to the idea of accepting a two-way contract. By leveraging their remaining two-way roster spot, the Clippers could retain Christie while simultaneously maintaining their roster flexibility to make additions in the future.

For all intents and purposes, this would be a very favorable situation for Los Angeles. Along with having the flexibility to deploy the guard during the regular season (up to 50 games), L.A. would also be able to assign him to the G League’s San Diego Clippers for developmental purposes. But how would this benefit Cam Christie?

Cam Christie Should Accept L.A.’s Two-Way Offer

While accepting a two-way contract could be viewed as a demotion in some ways, for a player like Cam Christie, this could be a valuable lifeline to remain in the line of sight of NBA teams.

As things stand, the 21-year-old hasn’t been able to assert himself as a key rotation piece in Los Angeles. In his two seasons with the franchise, Christie has appeared in a total of 68 games, averaging only 2.6 points, 1.3 rebounds, 0.5 assists, and 0.3 steals per game while shooting 36.8% from the field.

While the guard possesses some two-way upside, much like his brother, Dallas Mavericks guard Max Christie, the Clippers’ guard hasn’t necessarily had the opportunity to showcase or even cultivate his talents.

Handing Cam Christie a roster spot may not have aligned with the Clippers’ plans for the season, especially as they eye a playoff push. However, when considering his preseason averages of 8.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 0.5 steals per game, L.A. may have good reason to be intrigued.

Theoretically, Cam Christie has three options available to him.

The first involves testing free agency. While this would be preferable in any other situation, considering that the deadline is three days away, he may not receive much attention from teams around the league.

Alternatively, Christie can choose to join the Clippers’ G League affiliate and become eligible for a bonus of up to $91,000 after spending six months with the team. While this would allow him to focus solely on his development, falling out of the NBA spotlight could harm his overall value when he attempts to secure a roster spot next year.

All things considered, a two-way contract would be ideal for Cam Christie at this juncture. Although he won’t be a part of L.A.’s main roster, the opportunity to remain with the team for the 2026-27 season while cultivating his skills in the G League could be quite promising.

Given how this could help him convince the Clippers to upgrade his contract later in the season, the guard would view this as a favorable outcome.
