Thomas signed a one-year, $6 million qualifying offer with the Nets last offseason to end his restricted free agency. He is averaging 15.6 points, 1.8 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game this season while shooting 39.9% from the field, 32.5% from beyond the arc and 84.3% from the free-throw line.
A LSU product, Thomas holds career averages of 15.2 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game. He’s only 24 years old.
“I picked Milwaukee because they wanted me and they told me they’ve been interested for years now,” Cam Thomas told NBA reporter Marc J. Spears of Andscape. “So, it’s good to have this opportunity come to fruition. And I’m just hoping to meet everybody, get to know everybody and contribute as soon as possible.”
Thomas scored a career-high 47 points during the 2022-23 season against the Los Angeles Clippers on February 6, 2023. He’s now teammates with Giannis Antetokounmpo.
The Bucks won the 2021 NBA championship against the Phoenix Suns. However, they have lost in the first round of the playoffs for three consecutive years.
The Miami Heat, Minnesota Timberwolves and Golden State Warriors tried to trade for Antetokounmpo at the trade deadline. Milwaukee traded Cole Anthony and Amir Coffey to Phoenix for Nick Richards and Nigel Hayes-Davis after pulling Antetokounmpo from trade talks.
Antetokounmpo is making $54.1 million this season. He has a player option worth $62.8 million for the 2027-28 season. The Bucks can offer Antetokounmpo an extension this offseason.
A top-75 player of all time, Antetokounmpo is a two-time MVP, one-time Finals MVP, one-time Defensive Player of the Year, and 10-time All-Star. He holds career averages of 24.0 points, 9.9 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.2 blocks per game.
