Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid dropped a bombshell in an interview ahead of the 2025-26 NBA season.
The 2025-26 NBA season will be Joel Embiid’s 10th season in the league. All eyes will be on the 2022-23 NBA MVP following a disappointing end to last season.
A campaign where Embiid battled through multiple injuries and ultimately played in just 19 games. Aside from injuries, the 76ers also faced flak on social media.
Why? Because details about a closed-door meeting were leaked to the media. The same meeting where Tyrese Maxey called out Embiid for dragging the team’s morale down.
The said meeting took place in November 2024. At the time, the 76ers were on a terrible run as they had a 2-11 record in the regular season.
Fast forward to now, and Embiid has broken his silence on the person who leaked the details of the 76ers’ supposed secret meeting.
“I know who leaked it,” Embiid told Dotun Akintoye of ESPN.
“Yeah, but I’m not going to [say] the past is the past. The one thing I’ll say is, it’s hard being around people who do those sorts of stuff.
He added: “That goes back to the trust thing. Once you cross that — you can’t expect me to be part of a team meeting again. That’s just not going to happen.”
The bare minimum requirement to win an NBA Championship is to have a roster where players trust each other and have solid chemistry.
Unfortunately, that trust was breached by whoever leaked the details of the 76ers’ meeting last season.
As Embiid mentioned, what happened in the past should stay in the past. But what if the person who compromised the trust of his teammates is still on the team?
Akintoye asked: “The way you’re talking, it sounds like this person is still around.” To which Embiid responded: “I don’t know.”
Akintoye further pressed the 31-year-old to get the name of the player. But The Process remained stern in his previous response.
“Free agency just started. I don’t know what’s going on,” Embiid continued.
If that’s the case, there’s a chance that the player may have already left, right? Well, Embiid cannot reach that conclusion.
“No. There’s a chance they’re still around,” he concluded.
So far, the 76ers have re-signed Kyle Lowry, Eric Gordon, and Justin Edwards, while Guerschon Yabusele has left the team as a free agent.
Was the leak among the above-mentioned players? No one but Embiid can confirm it.
