Carmelo Anthony loved what he saw from his former team, the Denver Nuggets, with one player in particular catching his eye.
The Denver Nuggets continued their winning ways last night, adding a second victory after defeating the Minnesota Timberwolves to go 2-1 for the season.
Nikola Jokic was his brilliant self, putting up a triple-double with 26 points, 19 rebounds, and 10 assists. Jamal Murray had an amazing scoring night, with 43 points.
But one star who had been incredible in the start to the season struggled tonight – Aaron Gordon. The forward had a poor shooting night, scoring just 9 points on 3-10 shooting.
It was a far cry from Gordon’s incredible 50-point performance against the Warriors. But despite the poor night, Gordon has earned the respect of another legendary Nuggets forward.
Carmelo Anthony spoke on NBC’s pre-game panel ahead of the Denver Nuggets’ showdown with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
While Anthony had a lot of praise for Nikola Jokic, he also took time to single out Aaron Gordon for praise, shouting out his shooting and the confidence he is playing with.
“Aaron Gordon is playing phenomenal right now. Early in the season, his first couple of games, he’s shooting the ball well. He’s just playing like he’s been here; he’s won before. His confidence is integral.”
It appears Anthony may have inadvertently jinxed Aaron Gordon, who had a poor performance shooting the ball and only scored 9 points.

Of course, a lot of the praise for Aaron Gordon came off the back of Carmelo Anthony’s comments about Nikola Jokic, where he lauded his Denver Nuggets successor for having the best vision in the NBA.
“He’s very patient. I think he’s connected with his group of guys. The Denver offense understands that everything goes through Joker and his precision.
“He has the best set of eyes, I think, in the NBA right now. What he’s able to do, orchestrating that offense, that delayed system that the Denver Nuggets run… I just love the position that Joker bends on the court.”
Nikola Jokic is set for a brilliant season, with many believing he could win his fourth MVP, thanks to the improvement in the Nuggets squad.
