The Cleveland Cavaliers began the All-Star break held at their own Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse as arguably the most positive surprise of the 2021-22 NBA season.
Cleveland has hit somewhat of a late-winter swoon, though, and has dropped five of six games heading into Friday's matchup at the Philadelphia 76ers. However, it was something that happened during the Cavaliers' 119-98 home loss to the Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday evening that generated buzz ahead of the weekend.
As Kaylyn Hlavaty noted for Cleveland's News 5, the NBA officially fined Cavaliers coach J.B. Bickerstaff $20,000 on Friday for his actions while being ejected from Wednesday's contest.
Per an Associated Press piece shared by the league's website, Bickerstaff was fined "for using inappropriate language toward the officiating crew and not leaving the court 'in a timely manner'" in the third quarter of the defeat. He received two technical fouls to result in his first ejection as Cleveland's main man in charge.
"Nobody should see that," Bickerstaff said of his actions shortly after the loss. "That’s on me needing to improve and be better. It’s a combination of frustrations, obviously, but I need to stay in the fight. I need to be better."
The 36-26 Cavaliers sit sixth in the Eastern Conference standings, just two games ahead of the Toronto Raptors in the race to avoid the play-in tournament spots.
