Cavaliers reportedly agree to one-year deal with Robin Lopez

Fans of the Cleveland Cavaliers had reason to smile ahead of the July 4 holiday when they learned Friday that popular veteran guard Ricky Rubio is returning to the organization via a three-year, $18.4 million deal.

The Cavaliers were not done adding some experience to the roster ahead of the weekend.

According to Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com and ESPN/The Associated Press, the Cavaliers have agreed to a one-year, veteran minimum deal with center Robin Lopez. Once Lopez's contract is made official, he will become a backup option behind fan-favorite and All-Star Jarrett Allen.

Most recently, Lopez spent the 2021-22 NBA season with a rebuilding Orlando Magic side. The 34-year-old appeared in 36 regular-season games and averaged 7.1 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists.

Previously, Lopez has featured for the Phoenix Suns, New Orleans Pelicans, Portland Trail Blazers, New York Knicks, Chicago Bulls, Milwaukee Bucks, and Washington Wizards. The hope is that he will offer yet another calming voice for a young Cavs team that punched above its weight for much of last season before injuries and fatigue became too much to overcome during the play-in tournament.
