The Cleveland Cavaliers proved Tuesday night that they are capable of winning even without their biggest weapon.
Playing without injured All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell, Cleveland delivered an impressive 113–109 victory over the Detroit Pistons , showing the kind of depth and resilience that contenders often need late in the season.

Despite Mitchell’s absence, the Cavaliers found scoring across the roster to overcome one of the Eastern Conference’s top teams.
Jaylon Tyson led Cleveland with 22 points, delivering one of his best performances of the season. Tyson knocked down five three-pointers and provided the offensive spark Cleveland needed throughout the game.
Veteran guard James Harden added 18 points and seven assists, helping orchestrate the Cavaliers’ offense and control the pace in key moments of the second half.
Cleveland also received important contributions from its bench. Dennis Schröder scored 15 points, while Thomas Bryant chipped in nine points and five rebounds, giving the Cavs valuable production from their supporting cast.
The victory was especially impressive considering the opponent.
Detroit entered the night with one of the best records in the Eastern Conference and had been playing dominant basketball for much of the season. The Pistons still put together a strong effort offensively, shooting 51% from the field and placing five players in double figures.
Center Jalen Duren led Detroit with 24 points and 14 rebounds, continuing his strong season with another powerful performance inside. Tobias Harris added 19 points, while Ausar Thompson finished with 16 points and six assists.
Detroit also received solid playmaking from Cade Cunningham, who recorded 14 assists to go along with 10 points as he helped run the Pistons’ offense.
But Cleveland found its rhythm late.
After trailing early in the game, the Cavaliers used a strong second and third quarter to slowly build momentum. Key three-pointers from Tyson and Harden helped Cleveland stretch the floor, while the Cavs’ defense forced crucial stops during Detroit’s late comeback attempts.
By the final minutes, Cleveland had just enough control to close out the four-point victory.
The win also allowed the Cavaliers to avenge a recent loss to Detroit earlier in the season and keep themselves firmly in the playoff race in the Eastern Conference.
More importantly, the game showed Cleveland’s ability to compete even when its star player is unavailable.
For a team with postseason ambitions, that kind of depth can be the difference between a good team and a dangerous one.
And Tuesday night sent a clear message.
Even without Donovan Mitchell on the floor, the Cavaliers remain a team no one in the East should take lightly.
