After a heartbreaking finish to what was a magical season, the Cleveland Cavaliers were left scrambling to pick up the pieces.
They have invested so much capital into their core of Donovan Mitchell, Darius Garland and Evan Mobley that the only logical option to improve the team is to trade one of the big fish to open up cap space.
Despite reports of Cleveland potentially reshaping their roster, Mitchell and Mobley were specifically mentioned as two players who are nearly untouchable.
However, the word is that the team is much more open to the idea of moving Garland or center Jarrett Allen.
It should be obvious why the Cavaliers would never trade Mitchell unless their hand was forced and they also believe Mobley will blossom into a superstar one day.
Garland on the hand has a lot less room to grow because of his age and his injury history is becoming too extensive to justify the money he commands.
Kevin Durant was recently traded from the Phoenix Suns to the Houston Rockets and although Cleveland was never mentioned as a serious suitor, they certainly made a strong run at the former MVP.
NBA reporter Kevin O’Connor recently reported that the Cavs offered Garland to the Suns to try and win the Durant sweepstakes.

Unfortunately, they did not win the sweepstakes and it never hurts to try, but there is a chance it damages the relationship they have with Garland.
He has been in the city for six years and stayed patient through a grueling rebuild to help get the team to where it is today.
Although there was speculation that the team would try to trade the two-time All-Star, there was never any concrete reporting from the team.
Now that this report has come out that Cleveland tried to move him, it could cause a rift and lead Garland to requesting a trade.
All is quiet on that front for now, but it’s a situation that needs to be closely monitored throughout the offseason.
