The Cavaliers are continuing to use Lonzo Ball‘s contract as bait in talks ahead of Thursday’s trade deadline, sources told Hoops Wire and also reported by ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel.
Ball has a $10 million team option on his contract for next season — which is basically the same as an expiring contract. He’s had a disappointing season in his first year with Cavs.
In 34 games, Ball is averaging a career-low 4.6 points, along with 4.0 rebounds and 3.9 assists. At this point, he’s viewed as a potential throw-in in a wide range of trade talks.
Ball was acquired from the Bulls over the summer in a straight-up deal for Isaac Okoro. While most around Cleveland were excited about the trade, you can call Chicago the clear winner in that one so far.
The Cavs remain active in talks after agreeing to trade De’Andre Hunter to the Kings for Dennis Schroder and Keon Ellis. We have more on that story here and here.
