The Cleveland Cavaliers could be down an All-Star player to open next season.
Darius Garland, a point guard, enjoyed a successful sixth season in Cleveland. The former Vanderbilt standout garnered a career-best 75 games played and shot a career-high of 47.2 percent from the field. He averaged 20.6 points per game, marking the third time in his career where he averaged 20 points a game for a season. Garland was selected as an NBA All-Star for the second time in his career this season, while assisting Donovan Mitchell to propelling Cleveland to the best regular season mark in the Eastern Conference. The Cavaliers snagged the No. 1 seed in the playoffs, but fell in the second round to Indiana.
Garland suffered a toe injury in March against the Utah Jazz. He continued to play on it, yet he managed to put more harm on the mishap in the playoffs. Garland went through a successful toe surgery, but he may be out for a while.
ESPN’s Shams Charania reports that Garland could miss 4-5 months for recovery time.
Garland is likely to miss time to start the 2025-26 season, sources said. He was first diagnosed with the injury on March 23 in Utah and managed it to end the regular season before reaggravating and playing through the toe in the playoffs. https://t.co/KBMHubrXjR
