The Cavaliers have received trade inquiries on rotational players. They’re just not biting.
According to Joe Vardon of The Athletic, Cleveland has declined at least two recent offers involving players in the rotation, signaling a continued preference for patience despite a disappointing start.
The Cavs have already lost 14 games after dropping only 18 all of last season, and frustration inside the organization is real.
What that frustration hasn’t produced is panic.
Vardon reported that coach Kenny Atkinson is not in any imminent danger, despite recent chatter about “rumbles in coaching circles” and internal questions about leadership. Sources told Vardon that while executives, coaches and players are unhappy with the recent play, Atkinson’s job remains secure.
The same approach applies to the roster. Cleveland’s front office wants to see the team at full strength before making meaningful changes, something that hasn’t happened yet. Max Strus has been out since August following foot surgery, and several other starters have missed time as well.
Around the league, there’s a growing sense that the Cavs may eventually need to do something significant if the slide continues. But for now, Cleveland appears content to listen, evaluate and wait.
Calls are coming in. Decisions, at least for the moment, are not.
