Cavs Notes: Evan Mobley, Tristan Enaruna, playoff position

Cavaliers big man Evan Mobley took the message and ran with it.

After missing the All-Star Game, coach Kenny Atkinson challenged Mobley to come out of the break with more edge. According to Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com, that conversation stuck.

“It was a simple conversation about using it as a chip on my shoulder and knowing the value that I bring to this team,” Mobley said. “Since then, just been working and trying to get better… Just focus on my game and trying to expand it as much as possible.”

Before a quiet outing against the Lakers on Tuesday, Mobley had been rolling. Over a 17-game stretch, he averaged 20.2 points, 9.6 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.5 blocks while shooting 62.4 percent.

That’s the version Cleveland needs.

Charge pipeline delivering

The Cleveland Charge keep producing.

Tristan Enaruna was named the G League’s Most Improved Player after jumping to 20.3 points per game on efficient shooting. He’s on a two-way deal with the Cavaliers.

Guard Darius Brown II also finished in the top three in voting. He aklso spent some time with the parent club, making his first NBA appearance in February.

And as we relayed earlier, Liron Fanan was named G League Executive of the Year. She helped build a roster that went 23-13 and sent six players to the NBA.

Playoff watch

Just an FYI: The Cavs could clinch a playoff spot Wednesday without playing a game.

All they need is for the 76ers to lose to the Wizards.

On paper, that’s not exactly favorable. The Wizards have won one of their last 20.

Either way, the Cavs are close. And they may not even have to play a game to make it official. We’ll see.

They conclude their final West swing of the seaason on Thursday at Golden State. They’re currently in the No. 4 spot in the East, a game back of the Knicks for third, with six to go.
