Random dribbles following the first half of the Cavs-Pistons Game 7 in Detroit. Cavs lead, 64-47.
That may have been the Cavs’ best first half of the season.
They defended, they played with purpose, they took care of the ball, they behaved like they’re just gonna take this game.
Donovan Mitchell has been ama-zing with the way he has taken control — and mostly, via the pass. It has completely thrown the Pistons’ usually vaunted defense off balance.
Mitchell has been driving and dishing, and Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley have been dunking. It’s been beautiful basketball and the bigs have brought their A-games.
Basically, if the Cavs don’t get out of the second round, it sure won’t be Mitchell’s fault. He’s made that perfectly clear.
Sam Merrill’s outside shooting has been flat-out lethal. The Cavs needed a big night from a “role” player. They’ve been getting it all around. Merrill in particular.
Just make your free throws, fellas.
If the Cavs keep defending like this and taking care of the ball … they’re Eastern Conference finals-bound.
Long way to go. Just keep whatever you’re doing now going. This is how you’re supposed to play in Game 7. Now go finish the job.
Twenty-four minutes to go. Talk to you after.
