The Cavaliers are winning again. And the phone is still ringing.

According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, rival teams have made calls to see whether star guard Donovan Mitchell might be available on the trade market.

That much is real. The availability part, however, is another story.

Cleveland is 17-14 after back-to-back wins and Mitchell has been excellent. Prior to Tuesday’s victory over New Orleans, he was averaging 30.7 points, 4.5 rebounds and 5.4 assists while shooting 49.5 percent from the field, 38.9 percent from three and 85.0 percent from the line.

That’s All-NBA production and the Cavs know it.

The expectation around the league is that Cleveland would only consider moving Mitchell if he asked out. And there’s been no indication of that.

In fact, Shams Charania of ESPN has reported that Mitchell — along with Evan Mobley — is considered untouchable in trade discussions.

Context matters here. The Cavs finished with the top record in the East last season but were eliminated by Indiana in the second round.

This core — Mitchell, Mobley, Darius Garland and Jarrett Allen — has yet to break through beyond the conference semifinals, which naturally fuels outside speculation.

Mitchell, though, has been consistent in his message. He enjoys Cleveland. He likes playing for the organization. And in July 2024, he backed that up by signing a three-year, $150 million extension after arriving from Utah in 2022.

Teams can call. They always do. For now, the Cavs aren’t picking up with intent to deal.
