The Boston Celtics finalized their postseason roster by signing Dalano Banton to a two-year deal ahead of their regular-season finale.

The move comes as Boston (55–26) prepares to host the Orlando Magic (45-36) on Sunday at TD Garden, with tipoff scheduled for 6:00 p.m. ET. The addition of Banton fills the team’s 15th roster spot heading into the playoffs.

According to HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto, the Celtics and Banton agreed to the contract on Saturday.

“The Boston Celtics and Dalano Banton have agreed to a two-year deal, league sources told @hoopshypeofficial.bsky.social. Banton has averaged 6.7 points in 14.3 minutes per game in five NBA seasons with the Raptors, Trail Blazers, Clippers, and Celtics. Deal negotiated by Aaron Turner of Verus Team.”

Keith Smith of Spotrac added context regarding the timing and purpose of the signing.

“There’s Boston’s 15th player for the postseason. Banton was well-liked with the Celtics from his prior stints. Gives the team an additional ballhandler/wing in a ‘break glass’ situation in the playoffs. Wouldn’t be surprised to see Banton stick into next season too.”

Dalano Banton adds depth as Celtics finalize playoff roster

Banton, 26, has had limited action during the current season, appearing in two games with the Los Angeles Clippers and three with Boston. Across those five appearances, he averaged two points while shooting 44.4% from the field in roughly five minutes per game.

Despite the small sample size this season, Banton has previously shown the ability to contribute in larger roles. His most productive stretch came during the 2023–24 campaign with the Portland Trail Blazers, where he also had an earlier stint with Boston. In Portland, Banton averaged 16.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.6 assists across 30 games, including eight starts, while playing 29.2 minutes per contest.

The Celtics’ decision to add Banton provides additional depth at the guard and wing positions as the team prepares for a postseason run. His familiarity with the organization and versatility as a ballhandler offer Boston a situational option off the bench.

Boston enters the playoffs as one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference, holding a 55–26 record heading into the regular-season finale. The team will look to carry its momentum into the postseason following Sunday’s matchup against Orlando.

With the roster now set, the Celtics have completed their final move before shifting focus entirely to the playoffs.
