Celtics five-time All-Star Al Horford available for Game 2 vs. Heat

Soon after upgrading big man Al Horford's Eastern Conference Finals Game 2 status to " questionable ," the Boston Celtics officially gave the five-time All-Star the go-ahead to make his return to the court on Thursday night.

Celtics guard Derrick White meanwhile, was ruled out for Game 2, as he and his wife are expecting the birth of their first child. Fellow Boston guard (and Defensive Player of the Year) Marcus Smart — who missed the team's Game 1 loss on Tuesday with a foot injury — is listed as probable as of Thursday afternoon.

Horford posted a pedestrian 10.2 points per game during the regular season, but he has kicked it up a notch in the playoffs. The two-time NCAA champion at Florida has averaged a near double-double through his 11 postseason games this spring with 13.0 points and a team-high 9.4 rebounds per contest.

The 35-year-old Horford has added 3.4 assists, 1.4 blocks, 1.1 steals and 36.5 minutes per game, while posting a .524/.451/.833 shooting line and helped second-seeded Boston defeat the Brooklyn Nets in the opening round and the defending NBA-champion Milwaukee Bucks in the Eastern Conference semifinals. Horford scored a playoff career-high 30 points against the Bucks in Game 4, helping the Celtics knot the series up at two games apiece at the time.
