The Boston Celtics' offseason is shaping up to be a defining period of transformation for the franchise. Following a disappointing second-round playoff exit to the New York Knicks and the devastating Achilles injury to star forward Jayson Tatum, which is expected to sideline him for perhaps the entire 2025-26 season, the organization faces significant roster and financial decisions.
With the team's payroll projected to soar past $200 million, exceeding the NBA's second apron threshold, the Celtics are under pressure to reassess their roster composition, and could potentially trade away two of their core pieces ahead of next season.
In a recent appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, NBA insider Shams Charania provided insight into the Celtics' offseason strategy, indicating that substantial changes are anticipated.
"They are going to make trades... They'll definitely have a different roster. The question is just how severe as far as the movement is going to be for them," Charania stated.
He further elaborated, "I think teams are gonna express a lot of interest in Jrue Holiday. Teams are gonna inquire about Kristaps Porzingis. Teams are gonna inquire about Jaylen Brown. The Celtics are gonna have to identify what value are we gonna get for each of these players, which player is it gonna make sense to trade?"

Interest in both Holiday and Porzingis is reportedly growing across the league. The Dallas Mavericks are said to be exploring the possibility of acquiring Holiday to bolster their backcourt, especially in light of Kyrie Irving's ACL injury ( via The Stein Line).
Since joining the Celtics, both players have made significant contributions. Holiday, a two-time NBA champion and renowned for his defensive abilities, provided stability in the backcourt. Porzingis, known as "The Unicorn" for his unique combination of size and shooting ability, offered versatility and rim protection, averaging 19.5 points and 6.8 rebounds per game during the regular season.
